Description

During this 4 day intense theory and practical course, you will cover and learn how to apply immediate first aid to an injured casualty and a person suffering illness on board.  

The course will cover:

  • Dealing with an accident/emergency/illnesses onboard 
  • How to manage illness onboard
  • Airway maintenance and CPR
  • Applying first aid
  • Dealing with shock
  • External and internal bleeding
  • Burns, scalds, extreme heat/cold management
  • Spinal and musculo-skeletal injuries
  • Head, chest and abdomen injuries
  • Monitoring ill persons
  • Rescue requirements and transportation techniques 

The course will include videos, group discussions, physical demonstrations and simulated scenarios. You will utilise simulation training aids and dummy equipment, as well as real first aid supplies

Prerequisites

This course does require physical work that is carried out on the floor, so anyone with injuries that prevent them from doing so will be unable to complete the course and will have to re-book once they are fit and well.

Certification

Delegates will be required to complete a short exam and practical exercises in order to be issued with an MCA approved STCW eMedical First Aid; Regulation VI/4, paragraph 1 and section A-VI/4, paragraphs 1 to 3 of the STCW Convention and Code 1978, as amended.
