Prerequisites: A basic level of fitness is required to complete the practical elements of the course. There is no pre-learning required.
With effect from January 1, 2014, all seafarers, regardless of their role on board, will need to demonstrate an understanding of security awareness, in accordance with STCW, Section A-VI/6 paragraph 4. This requirement extends to all hotel staff and concessionaires on cruise vessels.
Furthermore, those individuals with Designated Security Duties are required to undertake additional training in accordance with STCW, Section A-VI/6 paragraph 6.
The aim of the course is to provide Officers and Crew with a better understanding of:
- the importance of ship security and the roles of those involved in its provision
- the requirements and measures to maintain ship security
- able to recognise and report a security threat.
The course will include videos, group discussion and trainer led presentations.
Delegates will be assessed throughout the course.
Trainer to delegate ratio of 1:24 throughout.
Upon completion of the course you will be presented with the original certificate.
