About Team Chris Harris

Chris Harris has joined the Viking family of companies as a lecturer in the disciplines associated with sea-going personnel, including Fire Fighting, Shipboard Security and Personal Safety and Social Responsibility.

He brings extensive experience from many years working within the industry and has been instrumental in the development of the fire training facility at the site in Whitfield, Dover.

Chris joined Townsend Thoresen in 1975 as an Engineer and continued in that role when P&O took over the company. During that time he joined the Kent Fire Brigade (Retained Service) achieving the rank of Leading Firefighter.

In 1998 Chris left P&O to join the National Sea Training College, Gravesend as a lecturer in Marine Engineering and Firefighter and within a short period of time the Fire Fighting became his primary responsibility.

During his time at NSTC Chris developed both the fire ground and a series of courses including STCW 78, Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting and Advanced Fire Fighting.

He also undertook the concept and accreditation for fire training centres in France, Spain, Fort Lauderdale (USA) and Liverpool (UK) enabling them to meet the standards required by the MCA to teach STCW 78, FP & FF and AFF.

He now looks forward to working with Viking’s new training division the Maritime Skills Academy.
