Prerequisites: Knowledge of the phonetic alphabet and computer keyboard literate.

Course Overview:

The course concentrates on the ability to use the basic equipment of a ship’s radio station. Including knowledge and practical experience of:

  • regulations and procedures
  • digital Selective Calling (DSC)
  • use of Inmarsat systems, radio frequencies and procedures.

  • The certificate qualifies the holder to operate a suitably licensed marine radiotelephony, radio telex or satellite mobile earth station. The course allows the candidate to acquire detailed practical knowledge of the equipment used on-board a ship to complete, Narrow Band Direct Printing, Telex over Radio Systems and Telex to INMARSAT systems.

    The student will be required to understand Operational procedures and practices and the satisfactory exchange of communications relevant to the safety of life at sea will also be covered in the syllabus.
